Local Information
Jackson County, most commonly referred to as North Park, encompasses nearly 1,600 square miles. Less than 1,400 people permanently reside here, so it is still considered a frontier by government standards and designation. It is the idyllic Rocky Mountain setting with snow-capped peaks, gin-clear streams, abundant wildlife, and not a single stoplight.
The town of Walden has a population of about 600 and serves as the county seat. Within the town, you will find public services such as a small clinic that provides medical services and some emergency care, the North Park Pioneer Museum, the county library, an indoor swimming pool, a town park, and the Sheriff’s Department. There are several motels, a couple of restaurants, a couple gas stations/convenience stores, a bowling alley, an auto parts store, hardware, a grocery store, two liquor stores, and, of course, a bar. It is also home to the best little fly shop in the west, North Park Anglers.
