A typical Guided fishing trip with North Park Anglers
Our trips always begin at the North Park Anglers fly shop. There you’ll hook up with your guide unless it’s pre-determined to meet elsewhere. After a brief introduction and hot cup of coffee your guide will address paperwork and billing, obtain all applicable fishing licenses for the day, then outfit the group with waders and boots (if needed). Once these preliminary measures are finished, your guide will pick out a few bugs for the day, then off to the river.
We ask that you limit your items to just one duffel bag and your fly rods. Our guide’s carry everything but the kitchen sink so there’s no need for too much extra gear.
On half day trips we provide beverages, on full days or float trips we provide lunch and drinks. Feel free to bring extra refreshments or snacks to toss in the guides cooler. Beer, liquor, and wine are not provided; feel free to bring your own. Please make sure to fill out the contract thoroughly so we know if there are any foods you or anyone in your party is allergic to.
It’s important for you the customer to communicate to your guide what it is you’d like to get out of this experience. This is usually best discussed on the ride to the river. If you want to learn to become a better caster, how to fish a particular river, brush up on entomology, or get a better eye for selecting the right fly, they need to know. If your guide doesn’t clearly understand your expectations, it will be hard for them to meet and exceed your standards. Our guides are seasoned professionals and earn to teach clients anything within the sport of fly fishing. If all you want to do is catch fish, you’re in luck because that’s what we do best.
Most of our trips will encompass fishing nymphs, dry flies, and streamers. Depending on the time of year one method or another can lead to more fish and that’s why we always run through it all.
Depending on the river or lake were fishing we generally won’t head back to the vehicle until the end of the day. We recommend that you bring a backpack. Your guide will be loaded with all the necessary items for fishing, a first aid kit, lunch, and a few drinks, so their space is limited. Your pack should include an extra layer, rain jacket, snacks, water, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, camera, and any medical items you need (epipen, allergy meds, etc).
Our staff loves to take pictures throughout the day, especially if you get that fish of a lifetime. After the trip your guide can save the pictures to a CD and give to you to take home. If you have a thumb (USB) drive we highly recommend that you bring it along and we’ll simply transfer the images to that instead. We also put all guide trip photos on our North Park Anglers facebook page for you to view and share with friends and family.
We ask all of our guests to share feedback with us on their experience. If you get a chance please visit www.orvis.com/northparkanglers and post a review. Whether good or bad, we strive to be the best, and we’ll never know how we perform if you don’t tell us.
